When asked to comment on Max's situation this evening, Ervin Stutzman, Executive Director of Mennonite Church USA, said, "ICE asserts that Pastor Max is being deported because he presents a public safety threat. This could not be further from the truth. Pastor Max is a respected community leader, devoted husband, and loving father of four. How is justice being served by yanking him away from his family?"

I wholeheartedly agree with Ervin Stutzman. This helps no one, rather it does a disservice to Max, his wife, Gloria, their four children, his parishioners and the community at large. As a nation, we can, and we must do better than this!

Like ancient Herod (who imprisoned and beheaded James, Acts 12); like Russia's Stalin (who banished people to Siberia); the cruelties humans have endured throughout history are now being practiced in the United States of America, where families can be ripped apart in the name of 'justice'. How can Americans have self respect when ICE blatantly violates our nation's principles?

How come he was deported? It is very sad to leave one's family behind. Comments are closed.
