Offering and Receiving Hospitality as a Spirit Discipline
Central Plains Mennonite Conference leadership has encouraged each congregation within the conference to become more familiar with the six spiritual practices mentioned in the proposed Congregational Covenant.
The Outreach and Service Committee has chosen to concentrate on the fourth spiritual practice: "Accepting and offering hospitality" by collecting video stories of congregational members pursuing this goal. Telling our stories to each other is a powerful way of encouraging one another and getting ideas about how to engage in this spiritual practice.
Each "Hospitality Story" is listed below and can be accessed at the following link (click on the corresponding link, then click “Play” and make sure that your PC speakers are on):
1. First Video Story by Jane Goering
2. Second Video Story by Philip Friesen
After viewing these videos, two questions for discussion might be:
“In this story, where does the kingdom of heaven appear?”
“How was hospitality extended and received in this story?”
As a response to these videos, we encourage congregations or individuals to record your own videos or e-mail stories to Amanda Bleichty. It is our intention to make them available to member congregations on this webpage so we can all benefit from each others’ ideas and experiences.
We hope your congregation can make use of this resource.
