Conflict Management Support Team
Workshops
Would you like to learn how we can live together in God's spirit of reconciliation even when you and others are in conflict? Would you like to learn more about yourself, about conflict, and about our call as disciples to live out and witness to God's reconciling love?
The Conflict Management Support Team can offer customized workshops for your church to help your members become more fluent in "conflictology" and also to gain more communication skills for dealing with interpersonal problems. One scenario is to do this on a Saturday when people can meet for 3 to 6 hours for interactive learning. It is our experience that people need to have time and elbow room to do any learning around conflicts and harms, since it slowly brings up their own hard experiences they are dealing with.
One recent workshop title is “Where Two or Three are Gathered: Conversations That Build Bridges of Trust and Peace” This workshop is structured around the teaching of Matthew 18 where several levels of heart-based conversations are mapped out for dealing with relational hurts and conflicts in a church setting. Skills are given for normalizing cultures of honest sharing, listening, apology, and forgiveness. Three-level conversations entail the help of facilitators and support people who can ensure better outcomes.
In past years, CMST has offered a "Conflict Transformation Skills Workshop" that will provide you with a greater self-awareness as to how you handle conflict, and help you to become better at handling conflict in the church. The training, modeled after similar workshops offered by the Lombard Peace Center, includes information on dynamics of conflict, personal conflict styles, communications skills, and responding to conflict in the church. The training will help promote your personal growth as a disciple of Christ by encouraging thoughtful integration of Christian faith with practical skills for managing conflict.
These principles will influence your life beyond the church as well. You will be able to take the knowledge you gain into your family and your work. You may even find yourself to be more confident in managing conflict throughout your life.
