Annual Leaders Retreat
Annual Meeting 2020,
Nathan Luitjens named
Executive Conference Minister
February 18, 2020
The Conference Board is pleased to announce to Central Plains Mennonite Conference that Nathan Luitjens has been hired as our new Executive Conference Minister.
Nathan will officially join the Ministry Staff Full-Time on September 1, 2020, working out of the Ministry Staff Offices in Kalona. During the months of March thru June, Nathan will work .25 FTE, giving leadership to Annual Meeting and Fall Council of Committees planning.
Nathan graduated from Canadian Bible College (2000, BA, Missions) and Regent College (2003, Masters, Missions and Evangelism). Since 2004, Nathan has served as a pastor and co-pastor at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church.
The search committee selected Nathan because of his strong track record in pastoral ministry and his gifted experience in serving in areas of leadership throughout our conference. References for Nathan spoke highly of his Anabaptist commitment and teaching, gifts in leading worship, meetings, and Bible Studies with a focus on encouraging conversation and bridging differing views, and his eye towards engaging mission broadly and in the local church context. Nathan is a strong Christian leader, and an excellent preacher and communicator.
About his sense of call for this role, Nathan wrote, “I believe that within Mennonite theology and within the churches of CPMC we are blessed to have a faith in Jesus that uniquely positions us to be the church in our culture today; a faith that can impact the community around us from the bottom up. If we are to do this, we need leadership that will help our congregations look outward to see the opportunities that present themselves in our communities as each congregation seeks to embody Jesus in their local communities.” “…I believe I have the gifts and skills that can help the conference and CPMC congregations make the changes necessary to thrive in this new cultural space.”
Please welcome Nathan as he begins providing collaborative leadership; engaging staff, conference leaders, pastors, congregational leaders, and partners in mission.
