Healthy Boundaries Training for Clergy
Boundary training invites reflection on the healthy use of power and raises awareness of the misuse of power, including ministerial sexual abuse. Central Plains Mennonite Conference requires persons with Active and Active without Charge credentials to receive Healthy Boundaries training every 3 to 5 years, or within the first year for those who have not received training previously.
If your most recent training was in 2018 or earlier, you will need to take Healthy Boundaries this year. If you took boundary training in 2019 or more recently, please check with Susan Janzen to make sure it’s noted on the MC USA database.
Retired pastors, Inactive pastors, and leaders without credentials: You are not required to receive Healthy Boundaries training, but we strongly encourage it for your own safety and for the safety of your congregation.
Credentialed persons serving in professional settings other than congregations: Please contact Susan Janzen about boundary training you have taken (or plan to take) related to your work to see if it will meet our requirements.
We are planning three regional Healthy Boundaries 101 trainings during the second week in October. These trainings will be in-person only. All three trainings are open to everyone:
NOTE: If you prefer online training, or if these dates do not work for you, you may take training sponsored by Mennonite Church USA or another MC USA conference. For a list of current options, please go to https://www.mennoniteusa.org/ministry/church-vitality/healthy-boundaries-training/. There are usually both in-person and online options on this list. If you have, or plan to fulfill the requirement this way, please contact Susan Janzen.
