Invitation to CPMC Annual Meeting 2021
The Annual Meeting task group, Central Plains Mennonite Conference board, and ministry staff are excited to invite you to the 2020 CPMC Annual Meeting which is scheduled to take place at North Heights Lutheran Church in Arden Hills, Minnesota on June 18-21. At Annual Meeting, we’ll worship, learn and fellowship together as God’s people in CPMC! Our theme for this year’s gathering will be “Together in God’s Space: The Church as a Reconciling Presence.”

Worship: We are thrilled to have David Fitch join us as our worship speaker (he will also lead two seminars). David is a professor, church planter, pastor and author. He is the B. R. Lindner Chair of Evangelical Theology at Northern Seminary Chicago, IL. He has been involved in numerous church plants and is the founding pastor of Life on the Vine Christian Community, a missional church in the suburbs of Chicago. David and his family are now a part of the Peace of Christ Church, Westmont, a church plant out of Life on the Vine. David writes as a part of Missio Alliance (missioalliance.org), a relational network of missionally-minded churches and leaders that takes a primary interest in encouraging and equipping church planters. He is a neo-Anabaptist and loves introducing people to the non-coercive God we meet in Jesus. David is the author of several books including Faithful Presence, Prodigal Christianity, and The Great Giveaway. The theme for our gathering comes from his latest book, the timely The Church of Us vs. Them: Freedom From a Faith that Feeds on Making Enemies.

Together we’ll explore what it means to make space in our lives and in our congregations for those with whom we don’t agree. Particularly in this polarized and politicized election year, this topic feels relevant to our lives as brothers and sisters in the church.

David has presented seminars at past Mennonite Church USA Conventions and comes highly recommended. We look forward to worshiping with David Fitch this year and with the worship team convened by pastor Chris Becker, of Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Lauderdale, MN. Annual Meeting Worship services are free and open to the public.

Workshops: Our workshops this year feature wide-ranging topics including peace-making and social media, the new Voices Together hymnal, church planting, creation care, communication skills, hands-on faith formation experiences, and many more. Come to Annual meeting to learn, grow and be enriched!

Delegate Sessions: In delegate sessions we’ll attend to the business of our conference and participate around tables in experiences that will help to enhance and make real what we’ve learned with David Fitch during worship. We’re also excited to install Nathan Luitjens as our new Executive Conference Minister giving CPMC a full complement of ministry staff to support our congregations moving forward.

Youth Delegates: Each congregation is invited to bring one youth delegate to be a voting member of the delegate body (and additional youth, if desired). In addition to having a voice around the tables in our delegate hall, youth will also have fun learning to know one another and our rich conference community.

Children: Childcare at Annual meeting is always lots of fun! Childcare will be offered at North Heights Lutheran Church for children through grade 8 in the 2019-20 school year.

Special Events: In addition to worship and delegate sessions, we also always have fun at Annual Meeting. We are very excited to have Bradley Kauffman, project director and general editor of Voices Together (the new hymnal), with us. He will lead us in a hymn sing on Friday evening introducing us to some of the new music in Voices Together. On Saturday evening we plan to enjoy a Strawberry Festival with Growing Hope Farm.

A note about COVID-19: Although much is unknown at this time, we are proceeding with Annual Meeting plans in hopes that we are able to be together in June. At this time, we’re asking that people register online or by mail, but our collection of registration payments will be delayed until after May 15 when we will make the final call about Annual Meeting. In addition to Annual Meeting plans, we are also developing contingency plans, in case we are not able to be together in person. We are hopeful that in these next weeks and months COVID-19 will be routed and we will be able to be together in June!
